Suicide Data Reveals Struggles Among Belizean Men and Police Officers

The latest data on suicides in Belize has shown that the act is most prevalent among men and police officers.  A recent study sanctioned by the Ministry of Health has shown that police officers tend to suffer from mental health disorders due to stress. One of the key points when it comes to mental health, is that it comes in varying degrees and various forms.  The common disorders in Belize have been identified as substance abuse disorder; suicide/self-harm, depression, and bipolar disorder. Vice President of the Mental Health Association (MHA), Azalia Larrie, explained to Love News how the recent data was collected regarding mental health.

Larrie added that the MHA has been working with the Ministry of Health to aid in preventing mental health disorders in first responders.
