A female supervisor has been charged with using a computer system to publish or transmit images of a private area, accused of cyberbullying a woman by allegedly sharing nude photos. Twenty-seven-year-old Adelita Saavedra, a Belize City supervisor, appeared before Magistrate Black this morning. She pleaded not guilty and was offered bail. Her next court date is September 1. The virtual complainant, a 40-year-old operations manager, reported to police on Monday, July 7. She stated that on Sunday, July 6, a friend called her, informing her he had received several nude pictures of her via WhatsApp, sent by Adelita Saavedra. The complainant recognized the photos from years ago, having shared them with a male acquaintance. She asserts she never gave Saavedra permission to share the images. The complainant believes she knows how Saavedra accessed the pictures, as both women knew the male in question. She expressed embarrassment and emotional distress, fearing the impact on her career and reputation due to the photos being circulated. This charge falls under Belize’s relatively new Cyber Crime Act, which has seen several individuals charged for bullying offenses.
