The Caribbean Community Administrative Tribunal (CCAT) has elected Lisa Shoman as president for the next two years. The CCAT is an impartial and independent judicial body that provides staff members of the CARICOM Secretariat and Regional Institutions with a forum for the adjudication of any employment disputes. Currently, Shoman is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Belize and is serving a second term as President of the Inter-American Development Bank Administrative Tribunal (IDBAT). She has served as Belize’s Foreign Minister. Her portfolio also boasts seven years as Belize’s Ambassador to the United States and she is a Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States. Shoman is also High Commissioner to Canada. She was elevated to Senior Counsel in 2010 and has served as a Court-certified Mediator, an Arbitrator and an Umpire in Arbitrations. She holds an LL.B. from The UWI at Cave Hill and completed the LLM program, holds the Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School and was called to the Bar in Belize in 1988. She has served as President of the Belize Bar Association and on the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council of Belize.
