Suspects in Double Murder Case Surrender to Police in Belize City

Two men have turned themselves in for the double murder of 36-year-old Troy Hyde and 15-year-old Lamisha Moody, but they are yet to be charged. Last Wednesday, Hyde and Moody, an innocent bystander, were shot and killed as they stood in front of a shop in the Jane Usher Boulevard area. The brutal attack played out just before 9 o’clock and resulted in a heavy police presence in the area for several days. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams provided an update on the police’s investigation and says the cops believe they have a solid case against the two suspects, who remain in police custody.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I’m hoping we can get the evidence to charge them because we are pretty certain as to who the perpetrators of that double murder are. Unfortunately we have not been able to get the evidence needed to lay charges against those persons who we know are culpable. We’re going to continue working with the community to see if they will be able to provide us with more information. Investigators have been busy, I myself have been on the ground trying to work with the community to see if we can get the information needed to be able to effect and arrest but we have not gotten there as yet. Those who surrendered to the police yesterday they’re being interviewed by the police. Again they came in with attorneys which means that if you know you’re innocent why would you bring lawyer for ? Right ? That says a lot but it’s a part of their right to have counsel when being interviewed by the police and so we’re just going to see what we can do.”

Reporter: Were you able to ascertain a motive as to why they were targeting Mr.Hyde ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well we believe, if you know there was an incident about two or so months ago where Giovanni Ramirez was knocked down and stabbed, he was hospitalized for I think a couple of weeks. It was alleged that Mr.Hyde was the one who did that and so we believe it is a retaliation in respect of that.”

Moody was a student at Anglican Cathedral College and lived a stone’s throw away from here she was killed.
