Yesterday, the Taiwan-supported Sheep and Goat Project presented breeding sheep to the vulnerable farmers in the communities of Cayo. Present for the Handing over Ceremony were, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise José Abelardo Mai and Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize David Kuan-Chou Chien. The initiative of this handing over event came from the Food for the Poor (FFTP), a non-profit Christian organization, which has partnered with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF), to acquire and donate high quality breeding sheep stock for families in the Cayo District. The FFTP takes charges of funding the program and selecting the beneficiaries. The Taiwan ICDF is providing technical expertise during the program implementation. As part of the program’s initiative to promote food security to the most affected in the communities, twenty families recently received a total of 85 breeding sheep*,* which included breed variations such as Barbados Blackbelly, Dorper and Katahdin.
