A cab driver is temporarily out of work tonight after his vehicle caught fire today at a gas station in Belize City. The cabbie parked his Buick Rendezvous just after lunch time in the parking lot at the UNO Gas Station near Bel-China Bridge. It was not long after that the vehicle’s transmission then caught fire, causing quite a scare. Thankfully, the fire was confined to the front and it did not spread further. The Fire Department quickly responded and by the time we got to the scene, the blaze was completely extinguished. The driver of the vehicle told us off camera that he had intended to take it to the mechanic this morning to address a mechanical problem. The fire was not a threat to the adjacent gas station nor the other buildings in the area, including where vehicle owner lives. The depot’s fuel supply is located on the other side of the compound, yards away from the blaze. As for the cab driver, he expects to resume his operations very soon.
