Three hours prior to the murder of Dwayne Cherrington another man was killed on East Canal also in Belize City. Reports to our newsroom are that taxi driver, 45-year-old Floyd Carter was shot multiple times whilst socializing with a group of men alongside the canal. The incident occurred just after five o’clock yesterday evening. Carter was reportedly approached by one male person dressed in full black who fired the shots in his direction. Police Commissioner Williams stated that they believe they already have the shooter in custody.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Police investigation into that matter so far have led to the detention of one person who we believe is the trigger man in that incident and so the investigation continues.”
Carter leaves behind six children and an ill and grieving mother who told our newsroom that Carter is the second son she has lost within a year.
Mother: “If I had lost my son by if he had sickness of anything I would have appreciated that and accept it because I lost a son March and I accepted that because he was already sick but by gun violence? I can’t accept this. I cannot. I cannot and will not accept this.”
Reporter: Especially knowing that he was not trouble.
Mother: “No. He is didn’t trouble nobody. He was my loving son, my sweet son. My birthday just gone the eleventh of November here my son spent my birthday with me you know. We went out and voted he took me to vote you know and he was a very good dad to his children he takes care of his children and he loved his children you know and those kids are going to miss their dad very very very bad you know that I can say- more than me. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me I don’t know because that’s my only son that was here with me. Only one beside the other one that passed March you know ? So I’m going to fall to pieces – I’m already falling to pieces and I don’t know if I’m going to get up the next day.”
Carter passed away at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
