A taxi driver and his passenger were jointly charged with drug trafficking today, but the driver owned up to the charge so the passenger could be set free. Thirty-six-year-old Anthony Carballo and thirty-five-year-old Arnold Anderson were jointly charged with possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another, in connection with almost two hundred and fifty grams of marijuana. Carballo initially tried to plead guilty to the lesser charge of simple possession; however, the prosecution rejected the plea. He then pled guilty to possession with intent, clearing Anderson of the charge. The Magistrate took into account that Carballo was a first offender and fined him fifteen hundred dollars. He has until November 30th to pay his fine or he faces one year in prison. Police found the drugs in Carballo’s taxi during a search on Monday.
