Teachers Protest Unpaid Increments at Independence Day Ceremony in Dangriga

There was a silent protest over the weekend in Dangriga by some teachers in the Stann Creek District.  The teachers chose the Independence Day official ceremony as the platform used to stage the protest over unpaid increments.  According to Denise Flores-Henry, of Ecumenical College, the event was not sanctioned by the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU), but it was a way to let their frustrations be known.

Flores-Henry noted that the BNTU forms a part of the Joint Union Negotiating Team (JUNT), which met with the government on September 6 to discuss several matters, including the increments. She says that the protest was held in support of those negotiations.
