Despite a stellar performance at the 7th Central American Under-23 Men’s Volleyball Championship, team Belize placed fifth overall. The tournament was held in Chiriquí, Panama, from September 16-20 and saw Belize, along with Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, and the host country, compete in brutal matches. The tournament was set up in a pool format, pitting Belize against Panama and Guatemala in their pool. The team lost 3-0 to Panama in the first game but secured a decisive victory against Guatemala in the following match. However, since Guatemala beat Panama, Belize was ranked third and could not advance. President of the Belize Volleyball Association Allan Sharp says that, despite the ranking, the team represented the country well, playing their matches at a high level.
Belizean player Kaelen Ingram also won an individual award for best opposite. The team was scheduled to return home today.
