Technician Begs for Leniency After Stealing 11K

Thirty-four year old Rupert Avila, a technician charged with the theft of eleven thousand three hundred and fifty dollars, pled guilty to the charge when he appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza. Avila said he made a wrong decision and he asked that the court be lenient on him because he is the sole bread winner for his family. Although he had a previous conviction for theft for which he served three months, Magistrate Mendoza spared him a custodial sentence and fined him three thousand dollars. He was given until April 29 to pay. If he defaults on payment he will serve one year. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 30, at Uno Gas Station, located in the Belama area. Avila was doing some work at the gas station when he stole the money which was in the denomination of twenty one, one hundred dollar notes and one hundred and eighty five, fifty dollar notes. The police came the gas station and recovered the money from a car that Avila was in. Avila claimed that he found the money when he emptied a garbage bin that was in the gas station.
