Police are investigating a robbery that occurred yesterday afternoon involving two teen brothers who were attacked and robbed by a group of five unidentified men on Water Lane. Around 4:45 p.m., Belize City police received a report from the control room of a robbery in progress. Police officers responded and met with the victims, 16-year-old Rory Jones and his older 19-year-old brother Dwane Jones both residents of Daly Street. According to the initial investigation, the brothers were riding separate bicycles along Water Lane toward Mosul Street around 4:35 p.m. when they were confronted in front of Belizean Meatpie by five male individuals also on bicycles. The group reportedly pushed the teens off their bikes and began to assault them. One of the attackers was armed with a knife. Rory Jones sustained abrasions to his elbow and knee during the assault and was subsequently robbed of his red and black 20-inch male-frame beach cruiser bicycle. Dwane Jones, though not physically injured, also had his yellow and black 20-inch beach cruiser stolen. The assailants fled the scene toward Mosul Street. Police then transported Jones to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in the company of his stepfather, Austin Bennet. Police canvassed the area and reviewed nearby surveillance footage, which reportedly yielded useful leads. The matter remains under investigation.
