Teen Charged With Murder in Deadly Belize City Shooting

Tonight, a teenager is behind bars after he allegedly shot and killed one man and left three others injured in a gang-related shooting. On Saturday, police arrested and charged 18-year-old Shenyon Levi Barrow, for the murder of 21-year-old Floyd McFadzean. On Friday night just past twelve o’clock, McFadzean was driving on Cemetery Road with 21-year-old Troy Gentle, 20-year-old Deon Gladden, and Jaheem Bent when they came under fire. Two men onboard a motorcycle, one of whom is suspected to be Barrow, opened fire on the trio as they drove in front of First Choice Pharmacy. McFadzean, the driver, sped off but lost control and crashed into a drain shortly after at the corner of Cemetery Road and Johnson Street. Barrow is believed to be the triggerman behind the deadly assault and was taken to the Belize City magistrate’s court this morning. The Belize City fisherman appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate and was read seven criminal offences. He was charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous harm, two counts of dangerous harm, and one count of dangerous harm. Due to the nature of the offences, bail was denied, and no plea was taken. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison, until he returns to court on May 25. Today, the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams stated investigators believe McFadzean was not the intended target in the gang-related shooting. 

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Police have since conducted investigation into that matter which revealed that the white car had gone somewhere in the St. Martins area and leaving out of St.Martins they were followed closely behind by a motorcycle and reaching the area of Constitutional Park one of the persons on the motorcycle fired multiple shots at the vehicle causing the fatal injuries to the victim. Police investigation have led to the arrest of a guy from the Martins area I think his name is Barrow. He was charged for one count of murder and two counts of deadly means of harm against the two other persons. Yes certainly there were persons in the vehicle who are of gang affiliation and I concur with the statement of the family of the deceased that he is not an active gang member per se but like I think the father rightly mentioned that t could have been a result of the company he kept. Because while he is not out there actively involved in gang activities and indeed he’s a working person he does have friends who are a part of the George Street Gang and we certainly believe he was not the intended target but again he was the one driving the vehicle and so he was caught up in that issue and that led to his death.”

Reporter: Have investigators been able to identify Barrow’s co accused ? 

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police:  “At this time no.”

Reporter: Is he speaking to police ? 
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police:“He cooperated to some extent but to the extent of saying who the co accused was.”

McFadzean succumbed to the injuries he received and died before police arrived. Meanwhile, Gladden and Gentle were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for medical attention. Bent had fled the scene and was later found bleeding in bushes on Tigris Street.
