A Ladyville man who was shot during an attempted armed robbery last week has been sentenced to over two years in prison. Nineteen-year-old Cameron Myles appeared in the Belie City Magistrate’s Court today and was arraigned on six charges. Myles was charged with attempted robbery, kept unlicensed firearm, kept unlicensed ammunition and three counts of aggravated assault. He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and for the unlicensed gun, but not guilty to the aggravated assault and ammunition charges. In mitigation, his attorney Ian Gray highlighted his client’s young age, first-time offense, and early guilty plea. The court acknowledged that no property was stolen, no one was injured except Myles, and the teen expressed genuine remorse for his actions. The Magistrate, using discretion, reduced the minimum sentence. Starting from four and a half years, the court deducted time for his guilty plea and mitigating factors, ultimately sentencing Myles to two years and seven months for each of the two charges. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning Myles will serve a total of two years and seven months. Myles is scheduled to reappear in court on February 10, 2025, to address the remaining charges of aggravated assault and possession of ammunition without a license. The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Eric’s Supermarket on Bachelors Avenue, Belize City. Myles and an accomplice entered the store armed with a firearm, demanding money. However, their plan was foiled when a civilian, licensed to carry a firearm, shot Myles in the upper left shoulder. The accomplice managed to escape, but Myles was detained and later hospitalized under police guard. Following his release from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on Friday, Myles was formally charged.
