A teenager was shot by police this afternoon in the Mayflower Street area of Belize City. According to police, around one o’clock officers of the Special Patrol Unit were conducting searches on a group of men in an open lot behind the Zoe Ministries Building when a struggle ensued between the police and several persons. Police say that during that struggle they heard two loud bangs that sounded like gunshots which prompted them to fire several warning shots to disperse the crowd. However, one of the shots caught eighteen-year-old, Jason Smith who was inside a yard in the area. According to Smith’s mother Kendra Foreman, he was not a part of the persons who approached the police officers. Here’s how she explained what transpired this afternoon.
According to police two expended shells were found inside Foreman’s yard but she says she refutes that claim and will be seeking legal action against the police department.
