The BCO says There Has Been a Decrease in Cases of Rape and Unlawful Sexual Intercourse

The statistics by the Belize Crime Observatory indicate that there has been a decrease in the cases of rape and unlawful sexual intercourse reported between January and October 2021, compared to the same ten months last year. While there is a downturn in reports, it does not mean that sex crimes are decreasing. That’s why the organization, Building People Movement, saw it important to launch a publication dealing with the laws that address sexual assault. As Dale McDougall found out today, that there are many people, who are still in the dark about what their rights are, especially if they are victims.

There are plans for an update to the publication in the New Year, which takes into account the psychosocial challenges associated with sexual violence and assault.
