Tonight, 53-year-old Constantino Perez has been identified as the man who lost his life when a barged he was on capsized off the coast of Placencia last week. Perez, who was employed by R and B Construction Development Company, was among three men travelling on the barge that was carrying construction supplies, an excavator, and a loader near Harvest Caye. Around 1 p.m. last Thursday while the barge was being push-towed by another vessel it capsized and sent the men overboard. Perez was injured during the incident and was transported to Harvest Caye for medical attention; however, he passed away shortly after. The Belize Port Authority had launched an investigation into the matter and today summoned the boat captain and the crew to attend an inquiry.
Port Commissioner Retired Major H Gilbert Swaso, shared more information and stated that the wreckage of the incident remains at the bottom of the sea.
Swaso added that the investigation into the matter continues and as soon as the inquiry is over the BPA will be stating what led to the incident that caused Perez’s death.
