Tonight, the bio-documentary, The Honorable Shyne, continues to be one of the top trending production on Hulu. Since its release on Monday, November 18, the reviews have been more congratulatory than not. Yesterday, Barrow hosted a press conference and spoke on several issues including the relationship with his father, Belize’s former Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Dean Barrow. He noted that while it was not ideal, fences have been mended.

Mose “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “The relationship had already been mended, you know, and everything that I say in the documentary is the gospel. When they asked me about my father, he told the story, he did not shy away from the mistakes that he has made. I chose not to focus and to beat him down because the truth is there, but there are many people that don’t know the truth and so I actually am grateful that we have such a strong relationship despite our disagreements on many policy matters which is the beauty of relationships and the beauty of having the father that I have that is not a micromanager, that is not someone that has manufactured my life. Everything you see with the help of God and the help of people including my father. He has given advice, you know Michael Finnegan has given advice. Everyone has contributed somehow but my father and I don’t share the relationship where I am reading off a script that he wrote or he’s over there pulling strings and jumping in front of buses to save me. He pretty much you know stands by and if I ask for advice sometimes I don’t even take the advice that he gives me and he cuss me out and tell me why I ask for your advice and you’re not listening. But we love each other still and I believe one of the things that I decided a long time ago is to love my father and my mother and honor them with no expectation for any return. My blessings would come from the heaven and so I treat with my mom and my dad in a fashion where I just love them. You know, they’re my parents and my father and I have healed and reconciled. And as I said, we still get into our disagreements as far as politics and policy but that aside, our relationship is better than ever, and that is why he’s even in the documentary. Because if you know him, he doesn’t need to be a part of anything, and he’s well off and accomplished and he’s just enjoying his time at the law firm.”
Opposition Leader Barrow also spoke on the political relationship he has with Prime Minister John Briceno. Primarily, however, Barrow spoke on Briceno’s expressed regard when it comes to rehabilitation for convicts.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “Food di talk but da noh fool di listen. I’m happy that he’ll be tuning in to watch the documentary with his popcorn and I hope he enjoys it. This is all of our story. He had a father who had made some mistakes, so I’m sure he should celebrate the resilience of all of us and second chances and criminal justice reform which I know Attorney General Anthony Sylvester has been a champion of. So I think this is a moment of celebration. It shouldn’t be a moment that divides us. I don’t believe that the documentary is campaigning for me to be the next Prime Minister. I do that. That is what I do. I am here to present my argument and my case to the people. But this should be a moment of celebration. My story is the Briceño story. My story is the Barrow story. My story is the Musa story the Hyde story, it’s the Espat story, it’s your story. I have been able to accomplish things that all Belizeans have the capacity to accomplish and so we should be inspired. We should see this and say, you know what, yes Shyne alright I will find what I need to find within me so I could do things that people think I can’t do. So it should be celebrated, especially with him having sons and, you know, as a father and a grandfather, you know, you should want your children to know that no matter what you know, you can rise to it. And so, yes, while I may not agree with Shyne Barrow’s political policies as a human being, you know, I tip my hat off to him and there’s things that we could learn.”
