Three hundred ninety-five cases: that’s the number of new cancer patients reported in 2020 here in Belize, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. In terms of the new cases, it was almost evenly split among the sexes. It is statistics like these that prompted the KHMH to open an oncology unit. I got a first-hand look today at the new wing at the nation’s most important health facility.
