Welcome back to our final segment of news. Belize’s Lady Jaguars are playing in the Women’s CONCACAF Under-17 Championship in Bradenton, Florida, U.S.A. On Thursday, Belize’s national selection went head-to-head against the team from Curacao and Belize fell three-nil. However, the team redeemed themselves today by clinching a victory over Barbados two-one, with a last minute goal by Khalydia (ka-li-dee-ya) Velasquez. Courtesy the Football Federation of Belize, we hear from the head coach, Iris Centeno; the star of today’s game, Velasquez; and goalkeeper, Jaleeny Belisle.
The winner in each group qualifies automatically to the next round. The runners-up will also get a spot, but in Belize’s case, the game between Barbados and Curacao will determine whether Belize advances. We will have the result on Monday.
