Today marks the commencement of Women’s Month with the theme for this year being “Break the Bias”. In celebration of the event, Thea Garcia-Ramirez, President of the National Women’s Commission, issued a press release. She stated that the importance of women’s leadership and participation cannot be over-emphasized.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize, stood in solidarity with women as he explained how the council has made an effort to include women in all of their departments.
The National Women’s Commission stated that it has as its mandate to increase gender parity, equity and equality for all women in Belize. She further said it must coordinate government and non-government initiatives to increase and enhance effective responses to address gender issues.
