The National September Celebrations Officially Launched

The official launch of the National September Celebrations 2021 was held over the weekend in Orange Walk. The event was held virtually and filled with cultural performances. The guest speaker was the Chair of the National Celebrations Committee, Minister Francis Fonseca who highlighted the importance of standing strong as a people to overcome any and all challenges through these pandemic times. Hipolito Novelo reports.

Hipolito Novelo, Love News: Under the theme ““Hopeful hearts, Steady hands, Together we rise”…this year Belize turns forty.

Ladrick Shepperd, Mayor, Orange Walk Town: “This year as we celebrate we must have in heart that we have lost some good people. We must keep in mind that if we stay focused we can continue our lives. Remember it is not like the old tradition marching through the streets celebrating. This one has changed a lot.”

Hipolito Novelo, Love News: And a lot keeps changing. This year the launched of the September Celebrations was held virtually in Orange Walk Town.

Ladrick Shepperd, Mayor, Orange Walk Town: “I declare this September Celebration open. Thank you. Long Live Belize and que viva Belice ! Thank you very much.”

Hipolito Novelo, Love News: Chair of the National Celebrations Committee, Minister Francis Fonseca underscored Belize’s forty years of independence.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science & Technology: “Forty is in the life of a nation, forty is a very very short time. We’re still a very very young nation. But forty years is enough time for us to have gained some experience as a nation. For us to have learned from the past, for us to have learnt from the challenges we have faced over these past forty years, the experiences we’ve had, the mistakes we have made, the successes that we have had. So over those forty years we have gained a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience. And at forty of course we are so young that we still have a tremendous future ahead of us as a nation.”

Hipolito Novelo, Love News: A post pandemic future and while that future is many years away, today the country, the government and the people cling to  hope.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science & Technology: “So when we talk about hopeful hearts of course we’re talking to every Belizean. We have been through a very difficult and challenging period over the last eighteen months in particular. These have been very very difficult times for our people. Thousands of our people have lost their jobs, been unemployed for more than a year. The economy has been shut down so so many people have been affected by COVID-19. Over three hundred and fifty people have lost their lives and so many other families have been so seriously impacted by this deadly virus. So our theme “Hopeful Hearts” is a call to those Belizeans and to all Belizeans that despite these challenges we must have hope, we must all have hopeful hearts that the future will be better, that there will be better opportunities for all of us. That together we will -“

Hipolito Novelo, Love News: rise and with steady hands hold the Belizean flag high with pride. Reporting for Love News,. I am Hipolito Novelo.
