The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) says it’s standing with the Joint Unions (JUNT) and is demanding GOB restore their increments this fiscal year. On Wednesday, following a general council meeting, the umbrella organization issued a press release expressing support for both the JUNT and the government. The union is calling on the government to work with the unions to resolve several points of contention, including GOB’s proposed pension reform and the BNTU’s outstanding collective bargaining agreement. According to NTUCB President Luis Luke Martinez, the government is not looking out for the best interests of public employees.
Martinez added that the unions continue to rally against the government’s proposed pension reform and see it as nothing else but an additional misguided taxation of workers’ salaries.
