The opposition has issued a release condemning any efforts being made toward mandatory vaccination for Covid-19. A release issued by the UDP, specifically by the party’s Shadow Minister for Justice, Darrell Bradley, states that the idea of mandating any person to take a vaccine violates the most sacred norms provided by the constitution. Those norms include the respect for the inviolability of the body, the protection of human dignity, freedom of choice and the protection of personal privacy. The party goes on to say that there are legitimate concerns coming out of the public domain surrounding the long-term effects of the vaccine as well as underlying conditions that may be exacerbated by the vaccine. The UDP goes on to say that while they do support Belizeans taking the vaccine, they will be looking into the legalities of mandatory vaccination should the time come for them to challenge the matter before the courts.
