The UDP says GOB’s agreement with BISL was a result of their work

UDP Chairman Michael Peyrefitte says that the BISL settlement was made possible by the previous UDP government. As we reported yesterday, the Briceno Administration announced that it reached a discounted settlement for the financial damages payable to Belize International Services Ltd. (BISL) to the tune of 38.25 million U.S. dollars. This is a result of the unlawful nationalisation in 2013, by the then UDP Administration, of the ships and companies registries, and the subsequent judgment by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) in July 2020 against the government.  But, today, Peyrefitte stated the UDP’s decision to strong-arm the company from Lord Ashcroft was ultimately beneficial to the Belizean people.
