The search to find a permanent replacement for UB President Clement Sankat is underway. The university announced today that its application process is now open. In its vacancy, the University of Belize said that the ideal candidate should have a highly developed understanding of academic values and culture and an appreciation for scholarship and academic excellence. In addition, that person should have a clear understanding of the role the university plays in the country’s development and a clear plan to ensure that the university delivers on its role in that development. Minimum requirements include having a doctoral degree from an accredited institution preferably, seven years leadership and administrative experience in business, public service or a regional multi-lateral institution with a record of achievement. Along with that, the candidate must demonstrate ability at mobilizing resources and work collaboratively with people and have analytic, organizational and strategic management skills. Doctor Vincent Palacio has been holding over since Professor Sankat’s tenure ended, but while the search for a new person continues, social media is already calling for a Belizean to be president, with some calling for Doctor Palacio to be given the job. We will see how it goes as the deadline for applications is October 8.
