Theft Suspect Remanded to Prison After Failing to Meet Bail Requirements

A man who was charged with stealing a bicycle has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison because he was unable to meet his bail. Thirty-one-year-old Elmer Martinez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a single charge of theft. Martinez pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of two thousand dollars plus one surety of the same. He will remain on remand until he is able to meet bail. His next court date has been set for September 26. Martinez stands accused of stealing the bike, valued at fifteen hundred dollars, from Yhony Rosado.
