Thieves Posing as Cops Rob Orange Walk Family of Their Belongings
Over the weekend, another family had a scary encounter with armed bandits. On Sunday morning, men possessing as cops stormed a home in San Antonio Village, Orange Walk District. Just before one o’clock, Roberto Molin heard a noise inside his home, and moments later saw a light flash in his face. He was ordered to get on the ground as the men searched his pockets and his wife’s purse. The robbers then made off with cash and valuables. Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa says both incidents are troubling and weighed in on the uptick in violent crimes.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “Of course like I mentioned over at our COMPSTAT meeting a few weeks ago while it is that we can celebrate the reduction in the number of homicides that took place in 2023 the property crimes, burglaries, robberies, these types of crimes are still leveled. I mean every single year we have hundreds of burglaries, hundreds of robberies taking place and that is why we are devising strategies including enhancing our neighborhood watch group component within the community policing unit of our department. All of these things go towards furthering community involvement and especially in rural communities it’s very difficult because there’s no police presence in rural communities and so if we can create that sort of relationship between the public and the police department I think that we can certainly bring down the number of burglaries taking place.”
Police have detained one person pending further investigations.
