Third Parties and Independents Nominate Candidates for Municipal Elections

The second set of municipal candidates to get nominated was the third parties, and the independents.  Here is the News Director once again with a recap.

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: With PUP’s mayoral and councilor aspirants all nominated by midday today the independent candidates had their turn to official register as aspirants in next month’s municipals. As history has proven it is usually a case of David and Goliath. Despite history however there were two third parties and some independent candidates that got nominated between midday and two this afternoon. In Belize City the ever popular Ernesto Torres, who has been vying for a municipal post as far back as 2003 was officially nominated as a councilor aspirant. The People’s Democratic Movement, PDM, went into the ITVET just after one o’clock this afternoon in their yellow party color. The PDM is a party recently formed in November last year led by Estevan Perrera.

Estevan Perrera, Founder, People’s Democratic Movement: “I never thought that this day would have come and now that it has come it even spurred me up more to fight for the people of Belize.”

Armin Arana, Love FM: You’ve been campaigning leading up to today, what’s the sentiments from the residents of Belize City as you campaigned ?

Estevan Perrera, Founder, People’s Democratic Movement: “Well a lot of sentiments from the Belizean people are that they’re tired of the red and blue.”

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: Up north in Corozal Hernan Riveroll was nominated by two persons this afternoon as an independent candidate for the March 6 elections.

Hernan Riveroll, Independent Candidate: “I have been in politics for about twenty five years you know and I have experienced the water from the both parties. So on the 2021 after the elections you know they had a little differences between the peoples that’s why I decided to say I’ll take an independent step.”

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: In the deep south Orlando Muschamp has once again put his name in for the municipals. Muschamp was in the company of four aspiring councilors.

Anita Nicholas, Mayoral Candidate, Belize Progressive Party: “We have a dynamic team, a diverse team that you can see. We have young people, we have youths, we have ageable people, diverse. You can see diversity with my team and I can say that we are privileged because we can put our differences aside and work together professionally. Our manifesto was out since the 5th of January and we sat down together as a team with our executive to put our manifesto together. So I can say our machinery is well oiled and well organized ready to take over PG.”

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: Another independent mayoral candidate in Punta Gorda is Winston Chun. Meanwhile in San Ignacio/Santa Elena Rudy Waight has once again entered the ring for the upcoming municipals.

The Belize Progressive Party, led by Wil Maheia, is also vying for the Punta Gorda municipal seats.  Senior Correspondent Paul Mahung spoke with one of the candidates earlier today.
