A Belizean motorcyclist was killed in Chicago, Illinois after he was involved in a tragic road traffic incident. 36-year-old Francis Quiroz was living in the US for over ten years and had three children. His family here in Belize is grieving from afar, since they are unable to travel outside of the country. His father in particular is mourning the loss of his youngest son, who had promised to visit as soon as he could. We spoke with Francisco Quiroz Sr today as he explained what transpired.
Francisco Quiroz Sr. Father of Deceased: “This morning I got the news that he was going home from his work, and yes he used these big motorcycles, and what I understand is that he was going down some main street I don’t know exactly which street and there was a car that flew across the street from out of another lane and he couldn’t make it and he slammed into the car and fell on his head. I love him very much. He’s my only son and he was supposed to come and see me but because of the sickness – he promised he was going to come and see me because as he said “Daddy I know that you’re getting down and I want to come and see you.” and I was looking forward to that and all of a sudden and I get this news and it makes me very sad. We are very fond of each other. He was a very loving person and he always said “Daddy I take after you.” you know ? He was always on Facebook praising me up. I can remember a couple years ago it was a Christmas season and he was doing something and this came up on Facebook and he said “I am like my father. I can do this and I will do it.” whatever he was making or whatever he was doing and he said “and I can do it because I’m just like my father.”
Two other Belizeans lost their lives in road traffic incidents in the US over this weekend as well. This incident happened in Los Angeles, California early Sunday morning in the Crenshaw area. According to a news publication, Shawnte Enriquez was a passenger on a motorbike when the driver lost control and hit a median, setting the bike on fire. Both persons were pronounced dead at the scene.
