A young lady, a man and an infant were shot just after seven o’clock last night on Antelope Street Extension, Belize City.  23-year-old, Mervin Martin, 16-year-old Chantuse Martinez and a 1-year-old were at the house of Cecil Martin when a male person approached the house and fired several shots. According to Cecil Martin, father of Mervin Martin, Chantuse was shot in her back and leg, Mervin was shot in his back and the infant was shot in the elbow. Martin noted that a few years back his house was also targeted during another shooting incident.

Cecil Martin, Father of Mervin Martin: “My son was in here socializing, him and his common law wife and his niece and my wife was inside the bed sleeping  and her granddaughter that got shot. My daughter was sitting down in the chair watching TV with her next cousin. When my son caught sight of him my son ran inside that’s what made him get shot in the back. His wife could not make it because she got the most shots but the baby got shot in her bed when they came to shoot our house, it’s like he came to kill everybody as if he wasn’t worrying about anything. I don’t see how it could be a targeted attack because as far as I know I don’t mess around with anybody, I don’t hurt anybody, I don’t know if my son hurts anybody because I don’t stay around the curve when the children are out but in my presence I haven’t seen him assert anybody, never had any run ins with the law to say any kind of criminal activity so I don’t see why. Only them who came and did it know why they came to do it. About four to five yards at the back, before the yard was fenced up, they climbed right up to the window that is turned to the street to shoot up here already, my daughter was here but thank God they didn’t get hurt but this time people got hurt.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jopseph Myvette, told the media that two people have been detained for the shooting incident.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of Crimes Investigation Branch: “So far Mr.Martin has been treated and released whilst Melanie Martin, the baby remains in a stable condition and Chanteuse Martinez is in a critical condition at this time. Police investigations so far had also led to two persons being detained which we believe are connected to this investigation and the recovery of a hand gun also in the Antelope Street Extension area. At this point in time we do not have a clear motive so we are still trying to establish that.”

Police Investigation continues.
