U.S. law enforcement and local authorities recently collaborated to rescue a two-year-old American girl after she was abducted by a parent and brought to Belize. Special agents and investigators from the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) worked alongside the FBI, Belizean police, and local government agencies to coordinate the child’s rescue. In a post on Facebook, DSS Special Agent Lou Wood praised the cross-border teamwork, saying “We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding collaboration with the FBI, our U.S. Embassy colleagues, and our partners in Belize, which led to the safe return of this little girl to her home in the United States.” The DSS, which operates in more than 170 countries, says its global presence is key to supporting transnational criminal investigations like this one. Additional information about the child’s abduction has yet to be provided.
