Toledo Coconut Farmers Get Boost from New Nursery Project

The Toledo Coconut Growers Co-operative received crucial materials and coconut seedlings to establish a new nursery yesterday. The initiative was spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE), under the “Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods, Building Resilience – Investments in Co-operatives Project.” The project is made possible through GEF Small Grants Programme Belize and is being executed by the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen the livelihoods of coconut farmers in the Toledo District, build resilience within the agricultural sector, and promote sustainable practices for long-term economic and environmental benefits. The new nursery is expected to significantly enhance the production of quality coconut seedlings, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the local coconut industry. Attending the handover ceremony were Area Representative for Toledo East Dr. Osmond Martinez, Leonel Requena, the National Coordinator for the GEF Small Grants Programme Belize and other key stakeholders.
