Tonight a mother and her two kids are left without the pillar of their household. Alfred Bernard Jr accidentally shot himself late Tuesday evening at his home in Old Mullins River Road in the Stann Creek District. Bernard was in the process of exiting his vehicle when he reached for his loaded shotgun, the gun accidentally discharged causing the injuries that lead to his demise. Love news spoke to the sister of the deceased Margaret Bernard who spoke about the tragic accident that has left the family in a state of shock.
Margaret Bernard, Sister: “It was an accidental death you know. I came off work and I got a call that my brother was shot and I queried it, I called his common law and I asked her what happened and she told me that it happened so suddenly that she herself she can’t believe it happened so suddenly and so quickly that everybody is still in shock. They tried to help him but it was very bad. He reached over, the gun was placed on the dashboard of the truck he reached over and the gun went off so I don’t know what transpired there but it was an accidental death. A tragedy yes for me, for the family, you know he’s my little brother, we are very close. He himself was in disbelief because I asked them what did he say, what transpired after the gunshot went off and he even walked a couple steps in front of the vehicle before he realized and he just said “take me to the hospital.”
Bernard leaves behind his common-law wife of the past fifteen years and two kids’ ages nine and seven.
