A fire over the weekend in the Toledo District is believe to be arson. Paul Mahung has the details.
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: The fire incident was on a farm located about 12.5 miles out of Punta Gorda on the PG/San Antonio Road. National Fire Service Punta Gorda branch was called out to the scene of the fire as explained by Officer In Charge Chadwick Foreman.
Chadwick Foreman, Officer in Charge, Punta Gorda Fire Service Branch: “On Saturday February 20th we received a phone call of a structural fire on the San Antonio Road at 16:34 P.M. whereby the fire department responded and on scene they found a 16 x 20 wooden siding thatched roof building fully engulfed in flames. The crew managed to get the fire under control and extinguished it. At the time of the fire there was nobody residing in the house and we got to understand that the owner is one Bertha Calis who now resides in Independence Village.“
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: The building with no electricity connected to it and no content inside was totally destroyed by fire suspected to have been intentional. Police in Punta Gorda have so far detained one person while investigations continue.
