The Belize Police department continues to work tirelessly in their fight against COVID-19. Amid the pandemic, hotline numbers were installed so that the public could report incidents of border jumping, which was a recurring issue earlier in the year. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams appeared on Love Fm’s Morning Show and spoke about a new hotline currently in the works to report illegal social gatherings.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: These task force will be put in place to ensure that we have a team in each district dedicated to fight the COVID-19 virus in terms of going after persons who defy the regulations and both BTL and SMART have agreed to give us the hotlines that we have requested and those hotlines – and I believe the BTL one is already in place and the number for that is 0800PARTIES.
Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: “And that will take any concern you have ? If you see a border jumper ? You see a party going on ?
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well we still have the border jumpers hotline.”
Ernesto Vasquez, Host, The Morning Show: Is that working ?
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “It’s still working. The one for border jumping for BTL is 0800SAVEBZ and then the one for SMART is 0800BORDERS and 0800JUMPERS in terms of border jumpers. The hotline for social events again for SMART is also going to be 0800PARTIES so the thing is that if you’re calling from a SMART Phone to the SMART hotline it’s going to be toll free, if you’re calling from a BTL phone to the BTL hotline it’s going to be toll free as well. If you a SMART to call the BTL one then you’re gonna pay for that so we encourage people to use the one that is assigned to their provider and then it’s going to be toll free. I want to take the opportunity to thank BTL and SMART for always working with us, whenever we brought the suggestion to them in terms of the border jumpers hotline they were very quick to get on board with us and again for this new initiative they were again quick to get on board with us. Ms.Narda Garcia I must say she has been very very helpful to us and likewise Mr.Tesecum from BTL very helpful as well so we’re very grateful for that.”
