UDP’s Corozal Southeast Standard Bearer Tony Herrera is battling with Covid-19 along with his wife. Herrera’s positive test has hampered him from his campaign with only a little over a month. Despite this setback UDP’s soon to be party leader, Patrick Faber says he is certain that Herrera will still bring in the seat for the UDP.
Patrick Faber, UDP Party Leader Elect: “I sent a message out to all of my candidates for instance earlier this week when Tony messaged to say he was positive to say we have to be careful and it does add a damper on the campaign. I think I’m not sure that’s quite what you said but this is probably the best opportunity we will ever have from all our stabs at it over history to win. Tony has a very good chance of winning. That’s a division that really we can win and I think it would be an honest assessment to say that his contracting COVID has put a damper on the campaign and it is not only that, his wife of course as you know is very ill I think she has a precondition and so it is a very trying time for him I suspect mentally as well. But he has done the work in the constituency, he needs to recover and recover quickly as we are trying to ensure that he gets his rest and that he tries not to worry too much and once that is done he will be back on the campaign trail I would suspect before nomination day which gives him a few weeks to the election date and a last go at ensuring that he can bring out the voters needed to claim the seat for the very first time for the UDP.”
Herrera is running against the current Area Representative Florencio Marin Jr.
