Top brass of the Police Department met with their counterparts of Melchor de Mencos, Peten, earlier today to attack a series of vehicle theft occurring in western Belize. Investigations have led the authorities to believe that the crimes are being carried out by Guatemalans coming into Belize to steal high-end vehicles. Many business persons have been targeted in these crimes including the Contractor General, Omar Mitchell, back on February 21, and Wayne Cadle on May 29, who lost his life in the process. The meeting was held at the OAS Adjacency Office. Correspondent Moises Martinez spoke with First Deputy Police Commissioner of Belize, Edward Broaster, and Darwin Fuentes, the Deputy Commisioner of Policia Nacional in Melchor.
Also in attendance at the OAS meeting was Assistant Commissioner of Police, Marco Vidal, among other senior officers, as well as Roberto Archila, Guatemalan Ambassador to Belize and Amado Yanes, the Mayor of Melchor de Mencos. The meeting was presided over by the Director of the OAS Office in the Adjacency Zone, Dr. Juan Carlos Amador.
