Tourism Industry Expansion Includes Capacity Building

As the tourism industry makes proactive steps in the expansion of the tourism sector post-pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism is focusing its current budget towards projects that can generate more revenue for the country. The Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, explained today that these projects include upgrades in capacity building as well as infrastructure.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations “Every fiscal year you go through a budget and a work plan. It is presented to the board of directors and it is approved. They say make adjustments here and then throughout the year based on the performance of the industry you are either generating more revenues or generating less revenues and so in the instances where by your generating more revenues you can go back and say we can look at additional projects for us to invest in. There are certain things that need to be improved in the industry. For example, the training institute, for example more infrastructure at the archaeological sites and other national parks.”

Minister Mahler says that a review process takes place each year and the industry’s performance is evaluated. Based on data that is presented to the board of directors, the Ministry can determine whether additional projects are possible.
