During the weekend, Love News reported on the body of a tourist that was found near Placencia. At that time, details were scarce, and we could not identify the victim or the cause of her death. Today, at the police press brief, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, confirmed there was no foul play in the death of the victim, Gemma Peybarah, a US national.
A.C.P. Joseph Myvett – Head National Crimes Investigation Branch:” On Friday afternoon sometime around 3:30 pm a boat captain visited Placencia police where he reported that earlier in the day he took out a group of eight tourists to do snorkeling near Caribou Caye. When they were ready to leave he discovered that a female tourist known as Gemma Peybarah 46 years U.S. National was missing from the group. When they commenced the tour she was at the time accompanied by her husband and six other tourists. As a result a search was conducted in the entire area however they were unable to locate her and sometime Saturday morning shortly after 7:45 am a boat captain in the area just southwest of Wiwi Caye discovered the body floating and as a result he then took the body on board his vessel where he headed to Placencia. A post mortem has since been conducted on the body where she died from Asphyxia Inhalation of fluid which is consistent with drowning.”
Police are still investigating whether the tour guide or tour company will receive any charges.///////
