Tragedy in Dangriga: Elderly Woman Perishes in Devastating House Fire

Just after midnight last night, a fire broke out in the Wagierale area of Dangriga Town and saw an elderly woman perish.  67-year-old, Sonia Sambula, was asleep on the upper flat of the 2-storey wooden house when a loud explosion was heard and a fire erupted.  Reports indicate that 21-year-old, Tyreese Sambula and 30-year-old, Robert Sheppard were inside the lower flat of the house when the explosion was heard.  Moments later, both men were seen fleeing the house.  Upon realizing that the house was on fire, the two reportedly tried rescuing the elderly woman, but by then, the smoke was thick and the flames were too high.  Sambula’s charred remains were removed from the site and taken to the southern Regional Hospital just after three o’clock this morning.  Fire personnel is yet to conclude its investigation into the cause of the fire.
