Tonight, a family in southern Belize is mourning the loss of a minor who died after she was hit by a truck in Hopkins Village, Stann Creek. Around 12:30, six-year-old, Makaya Magdaleno left her sister’s residence to go to her home which is a stone’s throw away to have lunch. According to police, the infant-one student was riding her bicycle on Karuba North Main Street when a collision with a gas truck occurred. The truck was being driven by 49-year-old, Alwyn Buezo. Police say that Buezo made a right turn into the street before colliding with Magdaleno, who died on the spot. Love News spoke to Gilroy Magdaleno, the minor’s father, who explained that shortly after the incident he rushed over and found his daughter lying dead on the pavement.
Buezo is detained by police and was issued with a notice of intended prosecution.
