Tragic Loss: Educator Sylvio Camara Dies in Belize Boating Incident

Residents of San Pedro Town are mourning the loss of career educator, Sylvio Camara, who died in a tragic boating incident. The 49-year-old was part of an eight-person crew, whose vessel capsized in Belize’s southern waters on Wednesday. Around 2:30, fishermen on a sailboat informed the Belize Coast Guard that they rescued three men between Tarpon Creek and English Caye but were unable to save the four others, one of whom had passed away. The BCG was able to respond quickly, and located the three other men within an hour, two miles East of Spanish Caye. Unfortunately, Camara lost his life during the ordeal and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez weighed in on the tragedy and Camara’s loss.

The crew consisted of 63-year-old Armando Graniel, 19-year-old Angel Coy, 23-year-old Ronald Landeros, 18-year-old Jonathan Torres, 37-year-old Avimael Chuc, 31-year-old Mynor Herrera, and 31-year-old Jason Magaña.
