The news of a body found in northern Belize rocked the community of Yo Creek Village, Orange Walk District. Reports began surfacing yesterday mid-afternoon and shortly after the victim was identified as 14-year-old, Christopher Chi. Reporter Naim Borges traveled north for the story.
Niam Borges, Love FM News: Residents from Yo Creek Village in Orange Walk are on high alert after a member of their community went missing on Friday, September 6th. A Jasmine Alert was issued on Monday to aid the search for 14 year old Christopher Chi. Yesterday the tragic news arrived to our newsroom that the body of Christopher Chi was found off the San Lorenzo Road. We spoke with the family today who told us what they think occurred.
Isai Chi, Brother of Deceased: “It happened on Friday, this past Friday and what happened is that this guy came with his motorcycle right her at my mom’s house and he called the child and then told him ‘let’s go take a ride’ and then what he did the little child just came grabbed his helmet and went along with him but he never knew what was going to happen to him and then two other guys were waiting for him by the BSI cane fields and they killed him right there. I started searching, me and my two other brothers and then the people heard about it then on Saturday night we were searching for him and then like we were about twenty people searching for him and then we also formed a search party and on that same night we ended that search. Yesterday we went all day searching and when the police did their investigation and the guy who is detained said that he is the one who did it. It is the guy that is detained, he said where the body was located and the police went right there. He wasn’t a little boy who was studying or working along with the people in Yo Creek but he was a small child that was growing and then he was living together with the family, my brothers and my father but he was being taught how to do a living when this occurred.”
Police investigations continue and we here at Love will keep you updated as we get new information.
