Training Sessions Conducted for Justices of the Peace in Punta Gorda

Training and educational sessions are being conducted across the country for Justices of the Peace.  One of the recent visits were to Punta Gorda, Toledo District where Correspondent Paul Mahung spoke with the President of the JP Association, Adrian Danny Madrid.

Adrian Danny Madrid, JP President: “We believe that training for all JPs is very, very important. Topics we covered today is the passport document that not only a JP can sign, but also a Belizean citizen by birth but we believe it’s also important for JPs to sign those documents. We did land transfer and different documents that have to do with land. We did vital statistics which we believe is very important, change of name, wrong name, late registration of birth, late registration of death, late registration of marriage and so forth. And we also did Social Security which also we believe that was very important to do, because Social Security has a lot of documents, proof of life for those who are retired, and many more documents with Social Security that we have to sign. And we also did… a presentation of how to do a police line up which was very good, I believe. And also we did marriages, which JPs can do a part of the marriage and then the second part has to do with senior JPs. We also did consent of marriage for young people and other items. So we believe that the training was very good today and it will continue to be. We will be traveling country-wide. and it’s very good for especially the new JPs, to attend these trainings. And I’d like to ask the new JPs to get yourself registered as a financial member of all the chapters countrywide. So we believe it’s very important and that will help us to do our job.”
