Transport Ministry Stands Firm Despite Court Ruling in Favor of Serrano’s Bus Line

While Serrano’s Bus Line was vindicated by a court judgment this week, the Ministry of Transportation is not backing down on the decision to remove the company’s road service permit. Some twenty-five months after the Transport Board denied the renewal of the bus company’s road service permit, the High Court overturned the decision, citing a constitutional rights violation, since Serrano was not given a fair hearing. Today, Minister of Transportation Dr. Louis Zabaneh said that the decision was procedurally flawed; however, a meeting will be held soon to determine the right way to ensure that the decision stands.

Serrano, who now operates as a taxi driver, was also awarded sixty thousand dollars in damages, an award with Minister Zabaneh confirms will have to come from the public purse.
