A travel advisory was issued today from the Ministry of Health via a press release. According to the ministry, they are aware that the World Health Organization has declared coronavirus as a public health event of international concern. With that in mind, they have scaled up its surveillance efforts at the principal ports of entry. They are recommending that any trips to China, especially non-essential ones, be postponed until MOH is further aware of the extent of the Novel Coronavirus. Persons arriving in Belize from China will be subjected to quarantine protocols as the case may be and this will be based on epidemiological data. The Ministry also does not recommend that Belizeans living in China to travel to Belize in order to avoid the virus. Rather, they advise that adequate precautionary measures be taken to avoid infection. The release reminds citizens that common symptoms of the virus are fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties.
