Travelers Liquors Contributes Rum Blend for CARICOM Anniversary

Travelers Liquors, renowned for its fine spirits, will be part of a distinguished group of rum producers across the Caribbean crafting a special blend to mark the 50th anniversary of CARICOM. This collaborative effort, organized under the West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association (WIRSPA), aims to celebrate the regional unity and cultural heritage shared among member states. Today, the company, a member of the WIRSPA, handed over the bottles of 5-year-old rum to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for distribution at the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting slated for later this year. According to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francis Fonseca, the initiative is based on bolstering camaraderie among member states and celebrating CARICOM’s efforts in the region.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “Belize is of course a very proud strong member of the Caribbean Community. We value our membership in that community. You know and so I think over a year ago the CARICOM Secretariat engaged with the private sector including the West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association to say what can we do,  what are different things that we can do to celebrate the spirit of our region. And I think one of the ideas that arose out of that discussion was, you know, Caribbean is known for its rums and so they asked the producers association to discuss it with their membership. And I’m very, very happy that Belize was included and our Travelers Liquors stepped up and said they wanted to participate and produce a rich blend for CARICOM. So I think 13 member states have participated and we’re having our CARICOM Heads of Government in Grenada on July 3rd to 5th. I will be representing Belize and so I’ll be taking a few bottles with me but Travelers will also send some to the secretariat so that they can give out and distribute. So I’ll be very, very proud to do that. Travelers Liquors, the Perdomo family have been, you know, very important members of our community and our society, trail blazers, pioneers in the rum industry, of course. So I have no doubt that Belize’s blend from Travelers will be the best in the region.”

Thirteen CARICOM states are taking part in the project.
