Three masked men were seen trespassing at Reimer’s Feed Mill on Forest Drive in Belmopan. 27-year-old Eleuterio Reyes Cruz, the company’s security guard reported that in the wee hours of Sunday morning he was inside the security booth when he heard the dog barking. As a result, he looked outside and saw the men standing under a lamp post behind the main building. According to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero in an attempt to capture the men several shots were fired.
Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch:“Thereafter the male persons ran away and he fired shots in an attempt to apprehend them. Thereafter the male persons fired shots back at him, there was an exchange. The three male persons managed to escape and were not apprehended. The complainant was not injured and checks were made at the various hospitals and no one came to those institutions with gunshot injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time.”
Reporter: Sir this is not the first time that this business establishment has been targeted. Back I think on the first occasion there were suspects that actually got inside the building and stole a number of items before leaving. Is police giving any advice to this particular business as to upping their security?
Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yes there are security measures that were advised to them and those were in place and the security guard found them before they had broken into anything.”
Reporter: Is it believed that these persons may have been the same suspects as in the first instance ?
Senior Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We are not sure, they made their escape and we have not detained anyone at this time.”
Despite his efforts, the men still made a good escape.
