Trial Begins for Bailiff Facing Gun Offenses

Trial for the municipal court bailiff who was charged with 5 related gun offenses has begun. Brandon Vaughan Gillett appeared in the company of his attorney Orson Elrington where his case has been transferred for trial. The case was adjourned to February 28 when he will be provided with disclosure. Allegations are that Police officers escorted Gillett to his residence on December 21 to execute a search warrant for unlicensed firearms. Gillett handed over two firearms, but when the police officers made checks in the Crime Information Management System, they noticed that the rifles that were presented did not match the current rifle that is in the system. He was charged with the offense the following day where an equivocal plea of not guilty was entered and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. After seven days behind bars, Gillett’s attorney was able to secure his bail in the sum of $10,000.
